Job Title: Office Manager    

Salary: £25 – 28,000p/a   

Location: Temple Cloud (Bristol and Bath outskirts)

A rare opportunity for an Office Manager has arisen within the award winning international publishing company.

  

Job Profile:

They are looking for a methodical and motivated office manager to come in and make the administration and database department theirs. Working closely with the Sales and Production Managers you will need to pay particular attention to their data which is the core of their business.   The ideal candidate will have previous experience gained in a publishing background and will be responsible for all areas of office administration and their database.

  

Responsibilities include: 

Daily management of the office and administration staff. 

Overall responsibility for the database, the accuracy of its contents and procedures for verifying existing and new data.   

All Payroll, HR & personnel matters.  

Maintaining company handbook.  

Health & safety compliance.  

First Aider & Fire officer compliance. 

Management of office cleaning company & landlord liaison.  

Maintain & follow and enforce all aspects of the Trademarks and Copyright.  

Oversee ordering of stationary, tea, coffee & consumables whilst negotiating the best deals.  

Manage all insurance aspects of the business, liability, employee travel, company car & private health care.  

Working with their partner Training company, amend / create and deliver the company  induction course (including database training) to all new employees.   

Ensure all office standards are met at all times including correct fonts, signatures, logos, headed paper and all calls being picked up within 3 rings and answered correctly.  

Occasional PA duties to the MD.  

  

Qualities Required: 

Ability to establish efficient procedures, organise, & manage.   

Very high level of attention to detail.  

A high level of competence in Microsoft office & a CIPD qualification are preferable.  

  

Additional information:  

Due to the (current) rural location of this office a car is essential.  

Due to the international nature of our business, once a year you may be asked to help out at one of our boat shows in Cannes or Monaco.

Job Title: Senior Editor (Books).  Salary: £22-27,000 Depending on experience  

Location: Bath Centre

      

Principle Accountabilities:  

   

  1. Manage creative projects including design briefing, approvals, schedules and quality control.  
  2. Ensure created material is appropriate and suitable for the target market, subject matter and customer requirements.  
  3. Brief and work closely with designer. 
  4. Ensure sales materials and MTR is delivered on time and to a high standard. 
  5. Provide a critical assessment of the work of others, and appraisals as necessary. 
  6. Assist senior members of staff with setting and planning of forward programme, assets and workloads. 
  7. Keep production controllers up to date with schedule changes and late MTR. 
  8. Liaise with licensors and out of house contributors to acquire the correct materials to create and adapt titles to suit the company’s markets around the world. 
  9. Ensure PIMS reflects correct project specifications and status. Liaise with Product Technologist about safety requirements, up-front testing and other safety issues. 
  10. Monitor individual project schedules. 
  11. Flag up any series unlikely to meet MTR or other key deadlines. 
  12. Contribute ideas for new and/or improved processes and team development. 
  13. Establish and maintain an awareness of relevant publishing media, marketing and product. 
  14. Provide a creative and compelling rationale for publishing projects. 
  15. Write and brief compelling front and back covers and packaging that sell the benefits of the product. 
  16. Drive projects and brief internal/external teams as required. 
  17. Actively problem-solve workload and style challenges across the department. 
  18. Lead projects. Initiate new ideas
  19. Develop strong series. 
  20. Propose new format ideas and innovative content.

Salary: £23-26,000 p/a pro rata.    

Start date/details: August/September 2010, 9 month maternity contract. 

     

Experience: Previous experince of working with non - licenced brands or designing within the childrens market would be a distinct advantage.  

    

Job Description:  To design and prepare for publication an agreed list of titles.  

  

Undertake all the design tasks on projects, from concept through to publication       

Create design styles, layouts, typography that are appropriate for each format, target age group and customer. 

Ensure sales materials and deadlines are delivered on time and to a high standard, and to help ensure that print deadlines and quality control targets (set in appraisals) are met.  

Work closely with the allocated project editor.

Be creatively inspired and involved in company and external initiatives and events.   

Contribute ideas for new and/or improved processes and team development.

Propose innovative ways to repackage and reconfigure existing company content and to ensure full compliance with the company Health & Safety policy .

Location: Studios in Bath (and Sussex). However, this role is working from home initially within the Bath area.

You’ll have creative flair as well as the ability to work to tight design guidelines and budgets. As an experienced designer, you’ll be confident working on multiple projects, producing high quality and commercially viable work.  As you will be working on your own from home you must be self motivated, trustworthy and reliable. The MD is based in Bath and you will be communicating with them on a daily basis.  This is a busy full time role.
