Job Description: 
 
Our client is one of the largest suppliers of children’s books in the UK and publishes a wide range of children's and adult books world wide. They are a dynamic company with a growing licensed list.  Due to growth, they are creating a brand new role Reporting to Group Production Controller, you'll work to bridge the gap between the editorial and production process. It is a great opportunity for someone with production skills that is looking to learn more about the editorial process and to manage projects from start to end. 
  
The production editor will be supported by a trained Mac Operator. You'll be working on new titles to back list titles that need reformatting/reworking for either the UK, Australia, India or the US. The books range from basic board books through to activity and reference titles. 
 
The role includes: 
 
* Setting schedules from MTR through to printer ready files 
* Writing design briefs and briefing a designer on the amends required 
* Calling up artwork files 
* Copy Editing 
* Proof reading 
* Keeping track of schedules 
* Placement and management of titles with repro houses, ensuring repro are aware of requirements 
* Ensuring files hit printer on schedule and that there are no delays to ETD dates 
Managing repro costs for your list - set budget and monitor actual against budget 
Attend weekly scheduling meetings and Head of Licensed/Kids of any scheduling issues / delays 
  
Likely skills: 
 
Understanding of production process 
Good Language and editorial skills 
Good eye for design and ability to critique designs 
Excellent organizational and project management skills 
Close attention to detail 
Proactive approach to your work 
Proven communication and negotiation skills 
High levels of administrative skill 
 
Training: The successful candidate will be sent on relevant external editorial and production courses to help build their skills. They will also be asked to attend any additional courses organized for the editorial teams, such as copy writing and proof reading courses.
